From November 20 to 22, our Sustainability and Forward Design teams, in collaboration with SUMe (Sustainability for Mexico), had the honor of attending Greenbuild 2024, the world’s leading event on sustainable construction, held this year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Greenbuild serves as a meeting point for industry leaders, designers, sustainability experts, and visionaries worldwide, focused on exchanging knowledge, innovation, technologies, and strategies to improve efficiency and build more sustainable cities.

This year’s edition was particularly impactful, showcasing the latest technological advancements, flagship projects with certifications such as LEED®, WELL, and Net Zero, and discussions on global policies shaping a more sustainable future. Our team had the opportunity to attend conferences, explore innovative digital tools like the launch of Arc Perform, and gain firsthand insight into the latest version of LEED® v5. This version is designed to achieve Zero Net Carbon goals by reducing emissions, enhancing the efficiency of operations, and promoting sustainable buildings.

Our attendees shared their experiences and reflections from the event:

  • Fernanda Acero highlighted the focus on reducing embodied carbon and the importance of tools like Environmental Product Declarations, emphasizing the need to evaluate and transparently communicate the environmental impact of materials.
  • Marianne de la Torre emphasized large-scale decarbonization under the theme “Build to Scale,” stressing how sustainability can become a competitive advantage when integrated as a strategic component in a company’s business model.
  • Andrea Aguayo underscored the growing relevance of regeneration, resilience, and human well-being in projects, showcasing case studies that implement certifications such as SITES and WELL, which aim to improve quality of life, address climate challenges, and mitigate environmental risks.
  • Daniela Álvarez highlighted the increased focus on social equity and the creation of holistic projects that integrate environmental, social, and economic impacts, recognizing the crucial role of leaders in driving these strategic changes.

In addition to learning about the best international practices, this event allowed us to reflect on how to integrate these global trends into our projects in Mexico. For us, sustainability is a responsibility and an opportunity to innovate, transform, and leave a legacy that inspires future generations.

We are committed to applying the lessons learned at Greenbuild 2024 to continue leading sustainable initiatives in the construction industry in Mexico. We aim to actively contribute to a greener future by implementing practices that positively impact our communities and the planet.

Together, we build more than structures: we build a better future.
