Rafael is an Engineer with more than 25 years in the field. During these years, he has become a skillful and committed professional while supporting other collaborators. Learn more about his passion for his job and career here.

What has led you to be where you are now?

I would sum it up with my passion for my work and my focus on results. Since graduating from Civil Engineering at ITESM, I have not stopped preparing myself. I did an MBA at ITAM and an MSC in Environmental Engineering at the University of Newcastle Upon Time in England.

Upon getting in Hermosillo, I committed myself to it. Therefore, I can say that since day #1, I have worked hard, always looking for the benefit of the Group.

It was almost effortless for me to adapt to Hermosillo’s work culture, as their values fit perfectly with those I’ve had with me all my life. This has led me to participate in multiple projects and lead the launch of the Hermosillo office in Mexico City.

How would you describe your job to someone not working in the construction industry?

It is like a hobby where I do what I love most. So I would say that our job is to solve our customers’ problems from the point of view of design and construction, technically landing their needs.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced while working in Hermosillo? How did you manage to overcome it?

I have faced many challenges in Hermosillo, all of a different kind. The technical ones are easy. Nevertheless, the more complicated issues involve communication, not internal, but with external teams participating in the project. To solve this, I have learned that leadership must be taken, and the conversation should be focused on fulfilling commitments and seeking collaborative work for the benefit of the project.

Another of the biggest challenges was starting operations in Mexico City. Nevertheless, we created an operational business unit focused on executing projects in record time. Without a doubt, I could not have achieved it without the unconditional support of many people, such as Don Polo de la Maza, Enrique García, Pablo Álvarez, Carlos Brizuela, José de la Maza, and many more.

I can say that since day #1, I have worked hard, always looking for the benefit of Hermosillo.

What is the job achievement you are most proud of?

With grand challenges, grand achievements appear. Finally, I must mention that I am very proud of positioning the Hermosillo office in Mexico City within the construction medium.

On the other hand, I consider that most of my satisfaction comes when I see collaborators I help grow. Watching recent graduates become meaningful leaders in their field is priceless.

How have Hermosillo’s values influenced your life?

Brutal, honest, and results-oriented work has formed me as a professional within the company. Also, Hermosillo has helped me not to lose focus on the overall goal, which is to work for the well-being of the Group above individual gratification.

What aspect of your personality do you most attribute your success to?

Hermosillo’s success is as a team, not personal. Every collaborator in Hermosillo shares the same foundation based on the Group’s values. That makes the work easy since we are all aligned toward the same goal.

Hermosillo helps us by providing the tools and training so we can all successfully develop our activities.
Someone that inspires you: Winston Churchill and Publio Cornelio Escipión Africano.
